Clouds of fire and dust rose up from the earth and shrouded the sky, deafening bangs echoed into the night, and Marie near knocked me over as she zoomed past. “Run for your life!” she screamed over her shoulder. Didn’t need to tell me twice. Were we at war? What was going on!?
Unable to help myself, I turned around to see what all the commotion was about, and stumbled over as I saw it. IT. The giant hotdog. What the actual hell? It was the size of my apartment block and was dripping mustard and tomato sauce everywhere. I narrowed my eyes. It was holding people! It was eating people! No, no, that couldn’t be blood. Hell, that couldn’t be a giant hotdog. I was hallucinating. It took a step closer to me. Yeah, no. Marie was right. Run!
“Wait for me!” I yelled after Marie, grateful that she slowed down for me to catch up, but then she tripped me over and raced off.
“If it stops to eat you, I have more time to escape! Sorry, Trev. Will be thinking of you!”
Til death do us part. Right, Marie. Love you too. Face down in the dirt, I heard a plane whizz overheard and another deafening boom shook the ground. The hotdog wailed like it had been microwaved for too long —a high-pitched scream that pierced my ears. A hot glob of mustard fell an inch from my face. I couldn’t help myself. I touched it, scooped up a bit, and ate it.
Mmm, not bad. Dijon.
Today is Day 362 of @mariannewest’s five-minute #freewrite! The prompt for today is – run for your life – and this is what I came up with before the eggtimer website went beep-beep at me. 😀
Weird tale possibly brought to you by my son playing 90’s Apogee plane-shooty game “Raptor” and the fact that prior to writing this, I was reading through his Scholastic Bookclub magazine and was tempted to buy him a book titled “Hotdog!” (one of the character’s names in the story – apparently they go camping… I hope they don’t try to eat their tasty-named-friend.)
Anywho! You can find today’s prompt and challenge behind these blue words!
