Certain Chaos pt. 4 (a five-minute #freewrite)

Part One | Part Two | Part Three |

Her gentle voice rose up before I could retreat, her tone much less imperious than before though it still held an obvious contempt.

“You are clearly an attendant, likely lacking in the education and tuition that is enforced upon those higher than your station.” She sent me a sidelong glance, allowing me the pleasure of admiring her elegant profile, her tilted nose and soft lips accentuated by golden candlelight. I almost did not care that she had insulted me in such a manner and buried it down alongside every other taunt that had been delivered to me when I dared assume this position. “Never mind. I will speak plainly, though I am unsure as to why I bother. Alignment and equilibrium must be reached and met before they can intertwine, and then cyberspace will form. It will happen this night, I am sure of it –just look at the stars!”

Her graceful hand beckoned me closer, and who was I to deny such a fine gift? The soft scent of gardenias encased me as I stood by her side and savoured her perfume –Sebastian coughed at my back. Equilibrium this or that; it did not matter. I would save this woman’s life or at least try.

“Excuse me,” I tried again. “This will sound awfully strange, and I don’t dare believe for a moment that you’ll even believe me, but my colleague and myself are of the host’s house, and are desperate to leave before chaos manifests most literally and physically. You happen to be standing by our escape route, and I can’t help but make an offer to you –come with us.”

For the first time, she fully faced me. I wasn’t too sure what to make of the look in her eye; perhaps I truly had been mistaken. For all I knew, this woman was one of our host’s cult members and I’ve just stumbled into her and ruined everything. She was beautiful though. I would much rather die by her hand than our host’s… perhaps, if she performed the killing blow, my soul would actually return to where it belonged rather than remain in his morbid machine buried beneath this marble floor.

“You’re no serf,” she accused, ignoring every word I had just said. Her eyes focused above my head and then widened, her fair skin paling further in distinct horror.

It’s Day 431 of @mariannewest’s five-minute #freewrite! The prompt for today is — cyberspace — and this is practically what I came up with before the eggtimer website went beep-beep at me. Add an extra five minutes for a quick tidy up and insertion of one extra paragraph. (The woman’s dialogue was much shorter in the timed 5-minutes)

Feel free to join us in this #freewrite challenge! 😀 You can find the future daily prompts at @mariannewest and today’s challenge at the following link:
