Take a Chance (a five-minute #freewrite)

Joey released a heavy sigh with an exaggerated heave of his chest and slunk further into his chair. It was very unlike him. He almost seemed exasperated. I snorted. As though he would be exasperated with me. Impossible.

“I think I might take a nap,” he sighed again and noodled his arms so they dangled lifelessly at his sides.

“A nap?” I raised an eyebrow. “Is that a trick? It’s two in the afternoon! Wouldn’t you rather be, oh I don’t know, tormenting my existence… as you do?”

A small smirk crossed his face before he leant back and gave off his best woe-is-me demeanour, raising a tired hand to his brow.

“I’m so bored. A nap will revitalise me,” he winked. “Then more mayhem. I promise.”

“Oh, good,” I rolled my eyes. “Thanks for the warning this time. Maybe I’ll move out while you’re napping.”

“Jenny, Jenny, Jenny,” he smiled. “And just where would you move to? You need me! You don’t realise it yet, but you need me. Besides,” he shrugged. “You’re penniless. At the moment you’re stuck with me. Possibly forever.”

I scrunched up a piece of paper and threw it at his head.

“I know! Go to bed, arseface.”

He giggled and ran away, despite his previously lifeless ragdoll act. He glanced over his shoulder as he disappeared into his room, but the small seeds of an idea had been planted. Maybe I could move out. Where would I go? Maybe I could move to the city and create a new identity for myself. I hate the city, though. Too many people. But maybe too many people would be better than just one Joey.

Maybe I could chance it.

Hullo! It’s Day 606 of @mariannewest’s five-minute #freewrite and today’s prompt is — nap, and I also included the last prompt which is — moving to the city.

I’ve been terrible with my writing lately. Too focused on other things. Still trying to record Let’s Plays of Star Wars: The Old Republic but every time I talk, I sound like an idiot. Anyway, I’m going to be forcing myself to get back into the swing of writing here! Even if I have to make Joey come out to play just for something to write about. He helps me with dialogue. Dialogue! My bane.
